Currentbody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 Review
Today’s review is all about the CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2. I’ve been using their masks since 2021, and I’ve tried plenty of LED devices from other brands as well, but these remain my absolute favourite. So, let’s take a closer look at what makes them stand out.

LED face masks are getting more popular every year, and there’s plenty of research backing the benefits of LED light therapy. There’s now a wide range of LED masks on the market that use different types of lights (wavelengths), but the ones with the most evidence behind them are red, near-infrared, and blue.
The Series 2 mask features a total of 236 LEDs across three different wavelengths:
- 110 red LEDs (633 nm) – one of the most studied wavelengths in LED therapy. It works on the skin’s surface, helping calm inflammation, boost circulation, and stimulate collagen and elastin production. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while improving overall skin texture and elasticity.
- 110 near-infrared LEDs (830 nm) – a clinically proven wavelength that targets deeper layers of the skin, improving firmness and elasticity. The combination of red and near-infrared light in LED therapy can enhance anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation effects.
- 16 deep near-infrared LEDs (1072 nm) – a longer wavelength within the near-infrared range that penetrates even deeper below the surface of the skin to support and enhance overall results. It’s a new addition to the Currentbody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 and is said to reach up to 10 mm into the hypodermis, helping stimulate collagen production at a deeper level.
As with all light therapy, you should avoid it if you have any photosensitive disorders or take medication (such as antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, or diuretics) that increases light sensitivity. People who suffer from epilepsy, seizures, metabolic diseases, lupus erythematosus, photosensitive eczema, or active cancers should also avoid light therapy.
Some people may wonder if red LED light therapy is safe for the eyes. For most people, it’s generally safe. The device is FDA-cleared, meaning it’s considered safe for at-home use when used as directed. That said, some dermatologists recommend wearing eye protection if you have specific eye conditions, such as albinism, glaucoma, or cataracts, or if you have increased eye light sensitivity, for example, due to certain medications. In such cases, side effects might include temporary blurred vision, mild eye discomfort or irritation, and short-term changes in vision. Still, these are not expected to cause permanent vision loss.
Fortunately, the CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 now includes black inserts that help limit red light exposure. The original version didn’t have them, so I’m really happy they were added. It makes such a difference, I can now work on my computer, watch Netflix, or scroll on my phone while wearing the mask without any discomfort.
The Series 2 mask comes with several noticeable upgrades. The number of LED bulbs has been significantly increased from 132 to 236. On top of that, it now includes a 1072 nm near-infrared wavelength for enhanced results in the eye area and around the mouth.
It’s also much more comfortable to wear, and I’m not just talking about the eye inserts I mentioned earlier. It has a new curved design that provides full-face coverage, including the chin. The mask is still flexible, which means you can easily adjust it using the straps. The new multiway strap feels great and keeps the mask securely in place, which was one of the weak points of the Series 1. There’s also a clip-on controller, which makes it easier to use on the go.
I’ve been using the CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 three to five times a week for the past four month. Certain products can be used alongside LED therapy to enhance results, usually those with antioxidant properties, but I personally prefer to use it on clean skin. Just make sure you’re not wearing sunscreen or makeup, as this can affect light penetration.
The mask is super easy to use. There’s no app and no mode selection, so you can’t adjust the wavelength, treatment time, or intensity. It’s literally just one button, switch it on and you’re good to go.
This mask has become a staple in my routine, and I’m really happy with how it’s performing. My skin looks more even now, with less redness and less of that dull look. It also helps soften the look of fine lines, and also leaves my skin feeling firmer and more supple. Let’s be real, it’s not a miracle worker, but I can definitely see a difference.
To sum it up, the CurrentBody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 checks all the boxes for me. It’s one of those devices I actually use on a regular basis. So if you’re thinking about getting an LED device but don’t know where to start, I’d definitely recommend it.
