Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 Review
In this review, I’d like to talk about the Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6. I was interested in giving it a try because I trust the brand and enjoy using many of Medik8’s products, including the Crystal Retinal Serum. Now, after finishing two tubes of this cream, I’m excited to share my thoughts with you.
Inside the formula, you’ll find twin-encapsulated Retinaldehyde aka Retinal (an intermediate step between retinoic acid and retinol). This twin-encapsulation delivery system produces an ultra-slow release, creating a gradient effect of retinal on the skin to ensure equal power and gentleness. Retinal has been proven to target fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, and uneven skin texture, making the skin smoother, firmer, and more elastic.
The formula is further enriched with ceramides, phytosterols, lecithin, and linoleic acid to ensure surface hydration and reinforce the skin’s barrier strength. Additionally, the blend of Red Fruit oil, squalane, cloudberry seed oil, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil moisturises and softens the skin. It is also boosted with skin-soothing bisabolol and honeysuckle extract. It also contains hyaluronic Acid Filling Spheres, which fill and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, expanding within the depths of wrinkles to create a plump look.
The Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide 6 Eye Cream has a light and silky texture. The product has a bright orange colour and almost no scent. It dries down quickly and does not leave any stickiness. I use a pea-sized amount of the cream at night, which is enough to cover both eyes, so a little goes a long way.
As with the brand’s famous Crystal Retinal serum, Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye also offers progressive retinol ladder (0.03-0.1%). There are 3 strengths:
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 3 (0.03% retinaldehyde) – for beginners
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 (0.06% retinaldehyde) – for regular retinol users
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 10 (0.10% retinaldehyde) – for advanced retinol users
The under-eye area has some of the thinnest skin on the body. Therefore, finding the right retinol (when I use the term “retinol,” I’m speaking about the entire family of retinoids) eye cream/serum with a gentle yet effective formula is important. The Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 Cream doesn’t irritate or sting my skin at all, and it’s not harsh or drying.
Using retinoids initially may cause skin irritation. However, this formula is fortified with ceramides, phytosterols, and skin-conditioning agents, which minimize irritation and deliver all the benefits of retinaldehyde.
The Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 Serum is gentle and doesn’t dry out the skin, though I wouldn’t describe it as particularly hydrating either. If you have an especially dry area, you might need to layer another moisturising eye cream on top. During the winter season, I prefer to let this treatment absorb, wait for about half an hour, and then apply a moisturising eye cream to ensure ample hydration.
Although the results didn’t appear instantly, I did begin to notice a difference in the fine lines around my eyes within 3-4 weeks. I would say that consistent use has led to a clear improvement in the tone and texture of my delicate eye area. The lines under my eyes aren’t completely gone, but they are definitely reduced.
I’ve been using retinol treatments for years, and I’ve tried a bunch of them. But honestly, Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye 6 Serum has the most gentle and wonderful formula that I’m using with complete comfort. Plus, the progressive ladder of strengths is a great feature to customise the experience based on skin preference. I’m definitely going to buy this one again.
