Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Serum Review
In today’s post, I’ll be giving you my thoughts on the Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Serum. Formulated with 0.03% retinaldehyde, this night serum targets fine lines and wrinkles for more softer, smoother and younger-looking skin. I’ve been using it for quite some time now, and I’m not going to lie, I absolutely love this product.
This twin-encapsulation delivery system produces an ultra-slow release, creating a gradient effect of retinal on the skin to ensure equal power and gentleness without loss of efficiency until the very last drop. Retinal has been proven to target fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, and uneven skin texture, making the skin smoother, firmer, and more elastic. The formula contains a blend of emollients, including squalane and carrot oil, as well as hydrators like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, to minimise dryness and soften the skin. Vitamin C (tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid) and cloudberry seed oil protect against free radical damage, while honeysuckle extract soothes the skin.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Serum has a super light creamy texture that melts into the skin and spreads easily. It absorbs within seconds without feeling greasy or sticky, leaving a slight matte finish. Two pumps are enough to cover my entire face.
It has a subtle cinnamon-vanilla scent that fades quickly.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal Serum available in progressive strengths ranging from 0.01% to 0.2% retinaldehyde. There are 5 strengths:
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal 1 Serum (0.01% retinaldehyde) – for sensitive skin
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Serum (0.03% retinaldehyde) – for beginners
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal 6 Serum (0.06% retinaldehyde) – for regular retinol users
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal 10 Serum (0.10% retinaldehyde) – for advanced retinol users
- Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20 Serum (0.20% retinaldehyde) – for experienced retinol users
The brand also recommends phasing the product into your routine gradually. Use it twice a week for the first two weeks, every other night for the following two weeks, and then nightly. Additionally, you should always apply sunscreen during the day when using retinoids.
If your skin is quite dehydrated, you may sometimes find it necessary to apply something over the top. You can also use the “Moisture Sandwich” technique to prevent irritation when incorporating retinoids into your routine. Start by applying a lightweight moisturiser to damp skin, then apply your retinol product. Follow this with another layer of moisturiser to lock in hydration and help prevent flaking. This method is particularly suited to stronger forms of retinoids or for beginners with sensitive skin.
I’ve been using this serum for a couple of years, and I’m very happy with the results. My skin doesn’t always tolerate retinoids, so I’m very careful with retinoid products and have found this retinal serum to be gentle yet effective. I can use it every other day without any irritation, dryness, or other adverse reactions, which is a great option for me.
I wouldn’t say the results are drastic, but my skin is definitely younger-looking. This serum helps improve texture, smooths my skin, and makes it brighter. It also makes my skin feel more bouncy, softens wrinkles, and gives it a healthy glow.
It’s important to be patient when first incorporating retinoids into your routine. Changes in your skin won’t happen overnight, and it can take up to 3 to 4 months before you notice the first results. Remember, with retinoids, consistency is key.
To sum it up, Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Serum delivers noticeable results without irritating my skin, and I absolutely enjoy using it. I’m currently on my fourth tube and advancing to Crystal Retinal 6 once I finish this one.
