CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet Review

CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet Review

Today, I want to talk about the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet, which aims to increase hair growth and make the hair look thicker and fuller. I’m a sucker for beauty devices and was really curious to try it. Let’s see if this one is worth the investment and how it actually works.

Low level light therapy, or LLLT, is the main technology behind the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet. It works by delivering a low amount of energy via a laser or LED to the scalp, stimulating hair follicles to return to the anagen phase to grow new hair. But I’ll get into the hair growth phases later. We do have studies showing that LLLT promotes hair growth compared to baseline and makes hair look thicker with regular application. The helmet has 120 red LED lights that emit a spectrum of 620-660nm wavelengths.

Here are common causes of hair loss:

  • Androgenetic alopecia
  • Genetics
  • Hormone shifts, for example, during pregnancy or menopause
  • Low levels of iron, vitamin D, and biotin
  • Illnesses, such as thyroid disease or cancer
  • Scalp infections
  • Some medications
  • Stress
  • Inflammation can play a part too, whether from an already inflamed scalp or from irritation caused by scratching, which can damage the follicles.

It’s worth keeping in mind that LLLT isn’t as effective as medication such as Minoxidil. Still, some medications don’t work for everyone or can cause side effects. Some people prefer to avoid using medication at all, while others want the best results they can get. Adding LLLT to your routine doesn’t cause adverse reactions, and the only minor contraindications are listed below. So it can help on its own, and studies show it can lead to better results when used together with the medications.

The helmet has several suction pads along the middle to keep it stable and prevent it from touching the scalp and hair. The CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet is wireless and doesn’t feel heavy on the head, so I can use it almost anywhere in the house. It also has padded headphones inside and connects to a mobile phone or laptop via Bluetooth. So yes, you can watch Netflix while wearing it.

The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is designed with safety in mind and is FDA-cleared. In general, low level light therapy is considered safe and is not known to cause adverse effects. However, you should speak to your doctor before using the helmet or any other LED device if you are taking prescription or over-the-counter medicines that may cause light sensitivity, such as antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, or diuretics. You should also check with your doctor if you have any suspicious or cancerous lesions, any photosensitive conditions or genetic eye disorders, or if you are particularly sensitive to light.

This helmet is meant to be to be used once a day for ten minutes, and it switches off automatically after the recommended treatment time. CurrentBody advises using it on clean, dry hair and scalp, but that doesn’t mean you need to wash your hair every time. It simply means there shouldn’t be any styling products such as wax or gel in your hair, as these can reduce the device’s effectiveness. If you have long hair, there is also a chance it may get tangled in the device, so putting your hair up in buns before treatment is likely the best option.

But it does have a few drawbacks. To start with, there is no low-battery warning, so the helmet sometimes switches off halfway through a session and needs to be recharged. After that happened a couple of times, I started charging it every four uses. It has a USB-C charging port, which makes it easy to recharge, and a full charge usually takes around two to three hours. Another thing is that the time display is placed on the side rather than at the front, which makes it harder to see in the mirror.

Additionally, the stand that comes with the helmet feels unnecessary and takes up far too much space. The helmet itself is quite large and takes up a lot of room, whick mean it isn’t something you could easily take with you when travelling. I also find that my hair can catch on the earphones when I take the helmet off.

Hair grows in a cyclical pattern, and each cycle has three phases. The anagen phase is when the hair is actively growing, and it can last two to seven years. Then comes a short transitional phase of about two weeks called catagen. It’s followed by the telogen phase, which lasts two to three months, during which old hair is shed, making way for new growth to begin. In this phase, people lose 50 to 100 hairs per day as a normal part of the process.

Hair regrowth is a slow process, so keep that in mind when you start using an LLLT device. It will take time before you notice any visible results. Because of the hair growth cycle, it is normal to see shedding when you begin using a hair growth device. Old hair needs to fall out so a new one can start growing.

I have been using the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet every day for six weeks. Consistency really is key if you want to see results. If you stop using it, the improvements you’ve gained will gradually fade.

Earlier this summer I went through a period of severe neck spasms, which was quite stressful, and about three months later my hair shedding increased. During this time I have not been using any dedicated hair-growth serums or treatments. The only product I’ve added recently is the VIRTUE Labs Scalp Elixir, which I have been using for the past couple of weeks. I wasn’t expecting to see results this early, but I’ve already noticed less hair shedding, and I can see more baby hairs along my hairline. My sensitive scalp has also become less irritated after just a couple of weeks of use.

To sum it up, I’ve had a great experience with the CurrentBody Skin LED Hair Growth Helmet. It feels comfortable to use, and I’m happy with the results so far. While there’s no miracle cure, it’s definitely a way to support your hair growth.

Hey, Masha! I see that you prefer to use different devices for each body area! I was wondering what are your thoughts on led light therapy panels? I read a lot of reddit and see that everyone there are suggesting panels over individual masks. I am looking at Hooga Pro300, thinking about buying it on BF. I see that last year they had 25% off. 😊

I got 2 hooga bulbs to try from US site, the 590 to see if it helps with rosacea (haven’t really tried it) and the mixed bulb. Each was about £50 inc shipping to UK. The new Stylepro mask doubles as a head, neck etc(haven’t got it and it is a lot more than there previous mask which I got for £70 on BF). I have a panel too but I struggle to use it. I’m a wake, pop my mask on for 10 mins whilst I wake up person. Panel isn’t getting much use as I have to remember, so have a think how you would use it maybe. No issues with Hooga at all fwiw.
