TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50 Review
This time, I’ll be sharing a brief review of the popular Korean sunscreen TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50. Without further ado, let’s delve into the details and learn more about this product.
The formula contains octocrylene (which protects the skin against UVB rays and some UVA II rays), ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (also known as octinoxate, which helps protect the skin against UVB rays), ethylhexyl salicylate (also known as octisalate, which protects against UVB rays), bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine (also known as Tinosorb S, which covers the whole UVB and UVA range), diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate (also known as Uvinul A Plus, which protects the skin against UVA rays), and titanium dioxide (which mainly protects the skin from UVA II rays).
TOCOBO Sun Stick contains synthetic wax and a blend of emollients to enhance the texture. The product contains a very small amount of water and doesn’t contain volatile solvents. The stick includes polymers to absorb excess oil and provide a matte finish. A blend of skin-soothing ingredients, including bisabolol, aloe extract, sophora flavescens extract, and Baikal skullcap extract, works to soothe and calm the skin. It also contains antioxidants like neem extract, eggplant extract, balloon vine extract, red seaweed extract, turmeric extract, Amur cork tree extract, kudzu extract, pinus palustris extract, and Baikal skullcap extract to help protect the skin from environmental stressors. A blend of echium oil, jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, ivy gourd extract, cotton extract, ulmus davidiana extract, evening primrose extract, rhubarb extract, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, and sophora flavescens root extract helps prevent water loss and soften the skin.
The product is light blue and applies without leaving a white cast. The sun stick glides easily on the skin, though not as easily as liquid sunscreens. The texture feels thick, but if you use it for reapplication and don’t apply many layers, it settles on the skin without being greasy or sticky. While it claims to offer a matte finish, I wouldn’t describe it as completely matte because it leaves skin with a soft, radiant finish.
The TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50 has a noticeable fresh linen fragrance that isn’t overpowering and fades away quickly after application. I wouldn’t call this scent particularly unpleasant, but I much prefer unscented SPFs.
I consider the sun stick suitable for reapplication but not as a replacement for it. I prefer to start with a good layer of regular sunscreen, and then use sun sticks to keep up protection during the day. Most sun sticks have a waxy texture that feels too heavy on my combination skin when applied in the necessary amount. The TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50 is no exception, with several layers, it feels a bit heavy and oily on my face. It doesn’t fully absorb, and my makeup doesn’t stay put well over it.
I don’t like the shape of the TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50, as it’s hard to use under the eyes and around the contours of my nose, so it’s easy to miss spots.
Another drawback is that this sun stick clogs my pores and causes me to break out. It also tends to pill on my skin. However, it doesn’t irritate my skin or sting my eyes.
To summarise, I’m not overly impressed with the TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50. It doesn’t quite meet my expectations, and I wouldn’t consider repurchasing it. However, the product has its fans, so others may have a better experience.
