The Ordinary Volufiline 92% + Pal-Isoleucine 1% Plumping Serum Review

Here’s my latest review of The Ordinary Volufiline 92% + Pal-Isoleucine 1%, a concentrated serum designed for targeted use on areas that appear sunken or hollow. Let’s take a closer look at this product.

The formula contains Volufiline™, a patented active developed by Sederma and derived from the root of Anemarrhena asphodeloides. According to the manufacturer, Volufiline™ helps improve the appearance of facial volume, reduce the appearance of hollow-looking areas, and improve skin firmness and elasticity with regular use over weeks. The Ordinary states that the serum targets visible volume loss and helps plump the appearance of areas prone to looking hollow, such as under the eyes, around the cheeks, and along the smile lines. However, published evidence supporting its skincare benefits remains very limited, and the available studies are mostly manufacturer-linked. Any visible improvements are more likely to result from improved surface hydration, mild temporary swelling, and possibly small increases in superficial lipid storage rather than true volumisation of the facial fat pads.

The serum also boasts 1% pal-isoleucine, which is a combination of amino acids and lipids that improves absorption whilst also supporting the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. Like Volufiline™, published independent clinical evidence is limited, although manufacturer data suggest visible improvements in skin fullness.

The Ordinary Volufiline 92% + Pal-Isoleucine 1% Plumping Serum has a water-free formula and feels more like a lightweight oil than a serum. It takes a couple of hours to dry down fully, so I wouldn’t recommend using it under makeup. It also gives a very mild burning sensation when applied.

I followed the instructions and used it over moisturiser, applying a small amount to the areas where I wanted a bit more volume, including my lips and under my eyes. I have a bit of under-eye volume loss and some dynamic lines. After about a week of using it, I could see a small difference. I also applied it to my upper lip and around the lip line, and it made my lips a bit plumper without irritating or drying them out. It’s definitely not “filler in a bottle”, as it’s often called on social media. The results are subtle, but I can see a slight improvement.

A couple of tips for using The Ordinary Volufiline 92% + Pal-Isoleucine 1% Plumping Serum. I’d recommend applying it slightly below the hollow to avoid making under-eye bags look more noticeable. I’d also avoid applying it too close to the lash line, as it can easily get into your eyes.

I really wish this came with a rollerball applicator. It would make it much easier to apply evenly without wasting any product.
