Today’s review is all about the Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo, designed to deeply cleanse hair, removing product buildup, pollution, excess oil, and heavy metals deposited from hard water. Here’s how it’s been working for me.
The formula contains a blend of mild sulfate-free surfactants designed to cleanse without being overly stripping. Additionally, a blend of hair-softening and conditioning ingredients, including betaine and glycerin, helps soften the hair and reduce roughness.
Also, hydroxyphenyl propamidobenzoic acid (demonstrated to mimic the same skin-calming action as oat) and betaine help soothe the scalp and reduce irritation, while charcoal powder helps absorb excess oil, buildup, and impurities.
The Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo has a charcoal-grey colour. The brand recommends leaving it on for 1 to 2 minutes for the best results. I’ve found that it works better for me when I shampoo twice, as it doesn’t lather much on the first wash. After the second wash, my hair feels really clean. Like most clarifying shampoos, it can be used once a week or every other week, depending on your scalp type, how often you wash your hair, and how much styling product you use.
For a bit of context, I have fine, thin, colour-treated hair and an oily scalp. I wash my hair every other day, and by the second day, it usually starts looking flat and greasy, so I usually reach for dry shampoo. And dry shampoo builds up fast. I also use quite a few styling products on my fine hair.
The Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo cleanses my scalp and hair really well without leaving that stripped, squeaky-clean feeling. It also never irritates my scalp. My hair always feels soft, fresh, and much easier to style afterwards. I love that it doesn’t strip my colour, unlike most clarifying shampoos. Additionally, I like using the Moisture Rescue Mask afterwards because it makes my hair feel softer and smoother in no time.
The Living Proof Clarifying Detox Shampoo is a lovely product that keeps all of its promises. I genuinely enjoyed using it and I can see myself repurchasing it in the future.
